Yogurt Park (Berkeley)
An absolute classic. If you are, or were at some time, a UC Berkeley student, you will inevitably know this spot. Yogurt Park- or “Yopo” as more commonly known by students- on Durant Ave has been serving delicious frozen yogurt to countless Cal students and nearby residents since 1977. Open until late, Yogurt Park is frequented by those wanting a late night snack while studying or hanging out with friends.
While there is an inside area that one can order from during the day, the shop itself is incredibly tiny and has no real seating area. Most order at the window outside, especially as it gets later into the night. The interesting thing is that the menu changes everyday, with new flavors constantly being swapped into the mix. Menus are often posted ahead of time on Yogurt Park’s Instagram, but half the fun is arriving without knowing and seeing what flavors are available for the day.
The most common sizes are the mini and small cups (don’t be fooled, the small is actually quite sizable), and they are both a little less than $5 (prices may vary over time). Different flavors can be mixed upon request, and various toppings are also available. The yogurt is always delicious and deeply creamy, something that is unique to Yogurt Park’s flavor profile.
For a casual snack on the way to class or while stressing over midterms late in the dorms, Yopo provides a blissful relief. A beloved Cal favorite and, dare I say tradition, Yogurt Park is a timeless classic that is a true local gem.
