The Game Parlour (Inner Sunset)

Unique, theme-based cafes are always an enticing find. While San Francisco may not be known for its themed cafe scene, it is not lacking in it either.

Nestled in the cozy inner sunset neighborhood, The Game Parlour is a board game cafe that brings together enthusiasts from all backgrounds to gather and chat in an intimate space. While The Game Parlour does serve drinks and delicious snacks, we hesitate to categorize this as purely a dining or beverage recommendation as it offers so much more than just its menu.

One of the things that the cafe does really well is taking the customers’ attention away from their phones and electronic devices. The open floor layout encourages groups to interact with one another face-to-face, stimulating lively conversations and laughs over board games. And while the exterior may seem unassuming at first,  we were surprised to find it bustling on a weekend night, even having to wait about thirty minutes before finding an open table.

Customers can find their game of liking amongst fully-stocked shelves towards the back of the cafe. With an almost unlimited selection of genres and types of games, every enthusiast- from beginner to expert- is sure to find what they are looking for.

The pricing is affordable as well. For only $7 per person, customers are allowed to play for as long as they want (without going in-and-out of the cafe). Other pricing tiers are offered for those who visit the cafe more often. The Game Parlour also hosts afterschool board game clubs for young students as well as frequently-occurring events for its more dedicated customers.

For those looking for a unique weekend or group activity, The Game Parlour is a true hidden gem of San Francisco’s entertainment scene and is sure to provide plenty of fun.
